4 Day weekend ahead, yippee!

It's time for some of us to put away our work filled Zero Halliburton briefcases and pack a holiday bag for a 4 day weekend, yahoo!!!!

Most people only have a 3 day weekend coming up but I chose to use a vacation day on Friday giving me 4 days off in a row, nice! I have plans to visit my cousin and her baby on Friday, not sure about Sat., Sunday is our 5th Sunday dinner after church and then no plans on Monday! It sounds boring but honestly, I need some sleep, so bring it on!

Although, I do wish I could have planned a fun short trip *somewhere*. How about you? Any fun plans this holiday weekend?

FREE SILVER JEWELRY!

I think I'm losing my mind! I've been turned on to a new website where you can get FREE sterling silver jewelry. The only thing you pay is $6.99 shipping! And I just can't leave it alone!

The home page has 4 different items that are displayed for 15 minutes each, then they go away and another comes on. There is another page that shows the next few items that will be available and you can even have it email you when selected items are available, FANTASTICO!!! I'm so addicted, I've already received 2 pr of earrings that were nicer than I expected and have a few more pieces for myself and gifts for others on the way.

What's that? Oh, you want to know where to find such a website? Well, I'm sure you do! Just like teenagers want to find a cure for blackheads, women will become obsessed with this site. I'm warning you, it's highly addictive...don't blame me later when you find yourself checking back over and over and thinking about what you might be missing when you are in the shower.....I'm just sayin'. SilverJewelryClub.com. Again, you've been warned! If you have any questions, drop it in a comment on this post. Or if you too have already been turned on to this site, let me know what fun items you've gotten so far! Enjoy!

My Fox tickets came today!

Yay!!! I'm all excited because my tickets have finally arrived for the Fabulous Fox Theatre Broadway series! Yay....................................

This season is the first time I am a 'subscriber' which means I purchased a ticket in the same seat for each show, which saves me money and offers benefits like purchasing additional tickets for the shows before they go on sale to the public! Nice. Purchasing tickets is easy for things like this these days since services like authorize.net and others came along. Just a few clicks and you got a seat!

First up, The Color Purple. I'm so excited, it's one of my favorite movies. It's so powerful and moving that just hearing the music and seeing the girls playing in the field in the opening scene makes me cry because I know what's going to happen! I can't wait to see how the movie will be interpreted to the stage. I'm so excited!!! I'm gathering anybody and everybody who wants to go along, let me know!!!

Give Me Five current projects you are working on: crafts, around-the-house, church, work, etc.

It seems I'm in the middle of so many things...if only I could focus and finish some so I could get on with the others!!! Aghhh!!! I am going to categorize my list since I have waaaaaay more than 5 individual projects to list.

1. Sewing. I have a few projects to finish sewing on. Some friends from church asked me to do a special sewing project for them a few MONTHS ago and I *still* haven't gotten it done! Partially because I'm not sure I can do it the way it needs to be done but also because it's out of sight and out of mind and oh, also because I am hardly ever home and when I am, sewing projects are not highest on my list. Still, I wish I was already done with it so I could stop beating myself up for not finishing it yet!

2. Scrapbooking. This is a constant, ongoing, every lasting project. I am still needing to get out all of my souvenires from my big trip last year and organize them! Oh wait, I failed to mention all the other trips before that one that *STILL* need to be scrapbooked! I have all the stuff and yet never make time to work on it. Sad, just down right sad.

3. Organizing. Friday I spent time at work organizing my office. It's nice, I even vacuumed! If only I could do that to my craft room, it would make #1 and #2 much easier to accomplish! My bedroom needs to be cleaned out and closets organized and such as well as the pantry in the kitchen.

4. Silent Auction. The Valley Girls (Valley View Baptist Church's Women's Ministry) is having a silent auction this Sunday at our 5th Sunday event. Each lady will come up with some sort of item to be bid on. I will need to organize the sheets for each item and some other details. It's our first one and I think it will be interesting to see what everyone comes up with and what the bidding will be like.

5. More Blogs. I'm contemplating starting an additional blog or two. I've always wanted to have a blog just for crafts and I've always wanted to have an online journal of a much more personal manner. Of course, all blogs are ongoing projects to enjoy. If I ever do start that craft blog, I will be sure and let you know where to find it!

Strong vs. Strength

Someone gave this to me and I have no idea where it came from, but I wanted to share it with all of you. It helps to look at things from an enlightened perspective sometimes. Enjoy!

A strong woman vs. a woman of strength

A strong woman works out every day to keep her body in shape (she no doubt has home gym equipment!) -
but a woman of strength kneels in prayer to keep her soul in shape.

A strong woman isn't afraid of anything -
but a woman of strength shows courage in the midst of her fear.

A strong woman won't let anyone get the best of her -
but a woman of strength gives the best of her to everyone.

A strong woman makes mistakes and avoids the same in the future -
but a woman of strength realizes life's mistakes can also be God's blessings and capitalizes on them.

A strong woman walks sure footedly -
but a woman of strength knows God will catch her when she falls.

A strong woman wears the look of confidence on her face -
but a woman of strength wears grace.

A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey -
but a woman of strength has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong.

Ephes. 6:10 "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might."

Of course,

When I listen to Abba, I always think of the movie Muriel's Wedding. LOVE IT! I really enjoy watching movies filmed in other parts of the world. I love to take in the background scenery and imagine that I live there. Muriel's Wedding was filmed in Australia!

Another of my faves 50 First Dates, was filmed in Hawaii. That movie also had a great soundtrack. I listen to it from time to time and it brings back the movie and beautiful lush scenes of the water and volcanoes and seriously makes me want to move there!

Of course there's a ton of other reminders that bring movies to mind besides music. Why, just the other day, I was shopping through an LTD Commodities catalog and they are selling a table lamp like the one in the movie A Christmas Story. Remember that movie? The dad just *HAD* to have the lamp...the kid got his tongue frozen to a pole....you'll shoot your eye out? No?! If you don't know what I'm talking about, you have to see that movie this winter season if you have never seen it before, it's a classic! I think there's something relatable for everyone in that movie. How about you, do you experience music or other situations that bring movies to your mind?

Momma Mia the movie, here I come!

Well, I'm finally going to see 'Momma Mia' the movie tonight. I will be going with my friend Karen and my own momma. It should be a fun time! I've never seen the musical, but my friend Karen who's going has seen it 3 times. So, in preparation of the movie tonight, I've been listening to Abba Gold: Greatest Hits all afternoon! (Like a bride-to-be might indulge in some Ephedrasil Hardcore fatburner in order to fit into that wedding dress she bought that was 3 sizes too small...why do people do that??) Anyway, I'm getting all worked up and excited about it. I'm going to go to the website and watch the movie trailer now :-)

Welcome home, A & P!

Welcome back to the United States from your 3 year excursion to England! I'm so happy you had a safe and uneventful voyage back. Soon it will be time to empty your memory stick and discs of all the photos of all the memories of this special time in your life. Those memories will live on in your hearts forever! I'd love to see a scrapbook of all your side trips and festivals and sight seeing you were able to enjoy while you were there. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help with that!!! :-) I'm working on my own scrapbook from my short 2 week visit last year. It's going to be ginormous!

The internet is taking over the world!

I remember back in the day when you would receive party invitations by way of snail mail. A nice postcard, perhaps a flyer of some sort.

Now days, you get an email from the company with links to click to get to the party information. The who is having the party, the where the party will be, the what time to arrive and all the RSVP options you can think of, including 'Maybe'!

I recently received one such evite to a Southern Living at Home party. The hostess was able to see all the guest replies on her special page and plan her party refreshments accordingly. Also, because I had RSVP'd 'Yes', the system sent me a reminder email about the party a day or so before the date so I would remember. Remember getting that reminder phone call from the hostess? It was so personal and friendly...

Today I received an evite to an Arbonne party. This evite was a bit different. When you clicked on the link, it took you to a page where you could see everyone else on the list and how they responded to their invitation. Interesting!!! I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. If you are on the fence about going and see that she has a few others already going, you might be tempted to click 'no' more easily or you might feel more obligated to go if she doesn't have many saying 'yes'. In that case, it would be a good thing to have it displayed that way. At any rate, it just seems like the internet is replacing more and more personal touches we take for granted and don't notice until they are gone. Hmmm....I do enjoy the convenience and interaction of the evite offering it's links to view the products before hand but at the same time I miss the personal touch of a tangible invitation to stick up on the fridge and that friendly phone call from the hostess. :-)

Ok, it's not *really* my fault...

...but I do feel bad that it happened! So I'm on my way to work this morning, late as usual. I have discovered a couple of 'cheats' that I can do in order to go around this one particular stop light that I sometimes get caught at...you know, when I'm already running late. I turn right at the light, then left into a shopping center, across their parking lot and back out onto the street that I had been previously detained by the red light.

Well, when I made the right, the line of cars waiting for their light to turn green was blocking the entrance onto the shopping center parking lot. There was a considerable gap in front of a van, a red car and a black truck. The black truck backed up and the van began to pull up to close the open space between him and the next vehicle. Well, I suppose the girl in the red car wasn't paying attention closely enough that the traffic wasn't actually 'going' and she gunned it and drove right into the back of the van that had stopped!

Slam!!!!!! Obviously they weren't going very fast so it could have been worse...I mean, there was no reason to call a South Carolina injury lawyer especially considering it didn't happen in South Carolina... Anyway, I do feel bad that it happened but it's not *really* my fault. The girl in the red car needs to learn to look before gunning it as if to take off! Oh also, I need to leave the house earlier in order to not have to take shortcuts!

Give Me Five current prayer requests. (remember, this isn't an opportunity to gossip!)

I have alot on my heart right now and thought other's might as well. We are supposed to lift each other up in prayer! James 5:16 says: "Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."

1. A & P. Some friends of mine who have been living in England are returning stateside tomorrow. My prayer for them is to have as smooth of a transition as possible, for them not to be overly upset by leaving a place they have come to love deeply and that they (and all there belongings) have a safe trip back and arrive in good health and good spirits!

2. J D. I have a friend who is having some health problems right now. They have been getting worse and tomorrow she will get some results back from a biopsy. I'd just like to ask for your prayers for her that along with the results, the Dr. will also have a decent plan for treatments or solutions to the issues and that God will bring healing to her life and let this be a witness to others around her who don't have as much faith in Him as she does.

3. D & D. Please remember to pray for my cousin and her son. I don't have all the details of the situation but my cousin really needs to get back on track with her relationship with God and take care of her issues with drugs and get back to a life that is fitting for a young soul.

4. M M. Also remember a friend of mine in prayer that she gets back on track in her life and marriage. I know she has experienced some heartaches recently but her actions have not reflected Christ and she has cut me out of her life for calling her attention to her inappropriate behavior. Even though she is no longer talking to me, forever or for right now, I still love her and pray that she has enough support in her life to get through this difficult time and not venture too far into sin to figure it all out. Some things that are done can never be undone and it's difficult to sit back and watch someone make mistakes and take steps towards doing those things.

5. My boss. I just pray that he can find a way to make his business thrive without costing him his life. He has heart problems and the stress of this business is beginning to show the signs of how it's taking a toll on him.

Lia Sophia, anyone?

Hello there! I am just dropping a quick line to update you all about the past couple of days. First off, my apologies about not hosting a Give Me Five meme yesterday. With all the party preparations, I was exhausted on Sunday evening and was only in front of a computer briefly yesterday, so it just didn't happen. Again, so sorry and I hope you can look forward to next week's post, I will!

My Lia Sophia party went really well. There were 9 people there total, including myself and the adviser. We had some yummy treats, played with alot of fun jewelry and played a game called "Ringo". What you do is take a blank piece of paper, trace your hand and then you have 5 minutes to go through the book and write down the name of a ring on each of the fingers and thumb. Then, the adviser draws from a bowl, a name of a ring (1 for each one in the catalog) and as she calls them out, you mark off the rings that match the ones on your page. The first one to mark them all off wins $10 off their order!!! Ringo!!! It was alot of fun to watch and if I had been playing, it would have been a fun game to play as well.

So, all in all, it was good times. I was really excited for everyone to come over because none of them had been over to see where I live. Especially the group from church. It's fun to see where people live, I think it really brings you in closer to knowing that person and relating to them and over all getting a sense of who they are too. It's like, I really do exist outside of the church walls! LOL I usually regret having parties due to all the stress of getting ready and then doing all that work and then no one comes, but this time my friends really came through and showed me they cared by coming! It made me happy to have them over and I hope next time we can just get together and play games or something. That would be fun too! Thanks everybody for coming! For those of you who couldn't make it, feel free to drop by their website and do some shopping. Remember, it's buy 2 get 2 @ 1/2 off this month only :) I won't be closing the party until Sunday, August 17th, so there's still plenty of time to look!

Come one, come all!

I'm having a Lia Sophia jewelry party on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008. So the name of the game for this weekend is CLEANING!!!

It will be so nice to get things all vacuumed and dusted and wiped down and put in order. There will be no time for things like shopping for Amazon books, although I do enjoy finding books for a penny plus shipping (how do they do that?)

Fell free to take a look at the Lia Sophia website and let me know if there is anything you'd like to order from my party! (I'll ship it to you myself!) The month of August is the kick off of their new catalog and the customer sale is buy 2 @ regular price get 2 @ 1/2 off! Plus, they allow you to use the highest priced items as your half off! Let me know!!! (Don't forget to shop for gifts too, the holidays are *just* around the corner!)

A new Dollar Tree for me!

Ok, I am so easily amused...I got way too excited this morning on my way to work when I discovered that the old Goodwill building which has been closed for a while, is now being turned into a new Dollar Tree store! Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's going to be ginormous!

I love Dollar Tree over some of the other local dollar stores because of the quality and variety they boast. Granted, you can't buy high tech stuff there like a Plantronics Voyager 520 bluetooth what-cha-ma-gig but that's ok because I already have a bluetooth thingy and never use it. I need cheap scrapbooking supplies and filler gifts and all sorts of other fun stuff they carry. If it wasn't for Dollar Tree stores, the baby shower I threw for my cousin wouldn't have been 1/2 as nice! Yay, me! :D

Give Me Five things you haven't done in a long time that you would like to do again.

I love thinking back to old times and every time I do, I always end up with the same question, "Why has it been so long since I've done that?" So let's make a list and then *maybe* think about doing them!

1. A new hair do. I recently made an appointment for a hair cut and the day before, I thought, "How long has it been since I updated my do or even changed it at all?" So I got all my hairs cut! I am now the proud owner of a swing bob and honestly, I'm lovin' it! I don't have a pic of it yet so I can't show you but I promise to share one soon! How long has it been since you got a new do?

2. Visit family you don't see often. I am shameful in this regard! There are family members I only see and talk to once a year at the family reunion and it's not because I don't like them, I just don't think to call or visit! Of course, the phone lines and roads between their house and mine go in both directions, but it's just one of those....we-just-never-plan-it things. I should totally make some time and make some calls and make some plans to visit those relatives I don't see very often.

3. Roller coasters. I used to love going to different theme parks and riding ALL the biggest, fastest, newest roller coasters I could! I would love to do this again, there's just nothing like that rush and weightless feeling, going upside down and experiencing extra G's....LOVE IT! I will need to really lose some weight first though but when I do, look out Six Flags!

4. Exercise! Ok, this sort of follows well from the one above, but I really do miss exercising. I always enjoyed being active and sweating out a nice work out. I remember going to the park and playing racket ball by myself like it was a tennis board. I played tennis in high school and really liked it. I haven't found a good partner to be matched with since high school so it's a bit disappointing really. Ah well, at this point, I'd be doing good to walk some on my treadmill!

5. Go on a date. No seriously, I think I would benefit from some dating motivation. I just haven't been interested in anyone in a long time. It's difficult for me to meet men, I'm rarely around available men so it adds a level of difficulty to my situation. Nonetheless, even if I know the guy isn't Mr. Right, I'd still enjoy going to a movie or out to a restaurant from time to time and engage in conversation that isn't about kids or husbands, no offense to my married friends, but I'm very single! :)

Do you have a pearl in your life's oyster?

I was recently chosen to receive and review cultured freshwater pearls from PearlParadise.com. I was given choices of colors for the pearls and white or yellow gold as well. We could also chose if we wanted earrings or a necklace.

When deciding what I should request to receive, I was concerned that a 'normal' length strand of pearls wouldn't fit me, I'm a big girl, now! So I mentioned that fact and went on to request white pearl, yellow gold stud earrings. I am happy with my choice! To my delight and humble surprise, I opened my package to discover a 26" beautifully lustrous strand of 79 white 7.0-8.0 mm pearls! I want whoever decided to send this specific strand to know, they are the perfect fit for my needs! Thank you so much!

I first learned about cultured pearls as a child, we used to go to 'pearl parties'. The table would be spread with actual empty settings for rings, earrings or necklaces. For a nominal fee, you would pick out your oyster, no matter how valuable the pearl inside was. I always chose the biggest, grungiest, most barnacle covered oyster in the fishbowl! Next, the consultant would open it to reveal your new pearl, which you then had set into one of the settings you would purchase additionally. The consultant would measure it and do some other things, I was a kid, I don't know what all she did, but they would record it and send it off with your setting to be received later as a nice new piece of jewelry! My favorite was my mom's blue/gray baroque pearls and a couple of gold ones that were used for a tie tack for dad and a smaller one made into a pendant for me. Over the years, our house was burglarized a couple of times. On one of the instances, they took the pillowcases from the pillows and dumped my mom's jewelry box inside. All the pearls were gone, except the small gold one in my box.

Although pearl parties were a lot of fun as a child, what with the element of surprise and all, I can see now as an adult that it would have been difficult to get a matching pair if you cared for earrings. Hmm....better leave the guessing out and purchase pearls that are already matched in color, size, shape and luster! :)

I am so excited to have these pearls to wear! As I was examining them and appreciating each one's beauty, I began to think about the lengthy process of how every beautiful pearl comes into fruition. At the same time, I began to contemplate a similar process in my life. Please enjoy this video I created to tell the story!

It's not a perfect metaphor but it certainly has a number of interesting comparisons. I could have gone on and on about this but sometimes less is more. This video was alot of fun to make. I would like to add, however, that even if there was only 1 oyster ever in this world, Jesus would *still* have come as a sacrifice. You are that precious to God! I will wear my pearls from PearlParadise.com with thanksgiving and a new appreciation for the process I am going through as my "pearl" continues to grow and is increasingly layered with lustrous nacre from the impregnation of God in my life! Remember, without accepting The Sacrifice, you are just an empty oyster!
