Sunburn relief recommendations? Anybody?
I use Noxema on my sunburns. It helps to some how draw out the heat and soothe and moisturize. Although it is so "cold" at times, it's quite painful to apply. After you apply it as a thick layer all over the red parts, you should let it soak in a bit and then you can put your shirt down over it. Sure it sticks a little but it also comes off *relatively* easy. It eventually dries and you can reapply it. Just try not to put it on so thick where it might show, otherwise you look like a greasy person under your clothes...um gross! So I was wondering what you all use to soothe or medicate a bad sunburn? Sunburn relief recommendations? Anybody?

Father's Day Weekend: The Ugly (Part 3 of 3)
"The Ugly"
There were some 'ugly' things that happened on this weekend as well. No, I'm not talking about encountering trannies in corsets, although that would be ugly! I'm talking about what happened as a result of going down to my dad's. It never fails, *something* always happens at home when you are out of town!
Sure enough, when I got back to my phone that I had accidentally left in my car during the time we were watching the movie, I had a missed call from my cousin who is 2 days overdue for having her baby! She left me a message to let me know they had the baby a couple of hours ago!
Awwww man! I missed it!? I was soooo disappointed. Although the more I thought about it, I realized they hadn't called me early enough that I could have been in the waiting room anyway! They called me 2 hours after the baby was born. :( Good for them, bad for me.
I called her back and got the update. It's a boy!!!!
His nickname is "DJ" and he was 22" long and weighed 8 lbs and 12 oz. She said there were some complications but everything is fine now. I congratulated them both. I'm so happy about the baby being born now but still disappointed I missed the event. Even if I was at home, I still would not have know, although I most likely would have called to check up on her and found out that way...possibly.
The ugliest result from this weekend had yet to be told. While I was on the boat with my dad, I realized that I was probably going to get a pretty good sunburn because I hadn't put on any sunblock, even though I had gone out of my way on Sat. to buy more and, AND had it with me in my bag on the boat! Duh, Beck!!! So the ugliest of uglies is that I now am suffering from a very bad sunburn. It's deep, people, it's real deep.
DJ's mom and dad have decided not to allow any photos of him on the internet so I had to crop him out of this photo, but here is a pic of me and my sunburn. Ouchie!!!!!
It doesn't help that I have a red top on, but you can still tell the difference in my coloring where the burn stops LOL It's my own fault!!! This is Ugly, for sure! Even now, 3 days later, I can hardly bare for my mom to put medicine on my back. I am going to be blistered and peeling, trust me, UGLY for sure!!! I can't believe I even had it with me and still didn't use my sunblock!

Father's Day Weekend: The Bad (Part 2 of 3)
"The Bad"
I met my dad at my cousin Tony's house. Over the years, this particular cousin has had different nicknames. Lil' Tony, Tito (pronounced 'Tee-toe') and some others I won't mention here for lack of clean terms to translate with. He was always a wild child, wrestling goats and acting out in one way or another. So it's very interesting to see how his life has progressed. He is married and has 2 young boys. I'm afraid his boys are worse than he ever was.
They had one of these ^ types of dual water slides. The kids were having a blast in the sun playing on it! I kept saying, "We would have died for one of these when we were kids!" Then, from amongst the laughs and giggles of the little ones, I heard some very foul and vulgar words! The remarks were so obvious and offensive, they sort of pierced the air and carved their own dark path across the yard to us like a colon cleanser on overdrive! Apparently his YOUNGEST son (4 years old) was not happy about something. Once we all heard it, I was just waiting for the wrath of a parent to be unleashed...you can imagine my surprise when the adults just rolled their eyes and turned away as they grinned and held back their laughter! What!?!?! This can't be good.... Then the stories began to flow about how his older brother was like that too then I heard something very strange. Someone said, "He'll calm down when he gets to school, like his brother did." OMG! Isn't it usually the opposite? You send your good little boys and girls to school and they come home with worse habits? Something is very wrong here.

This Father's Day I went down to the country to visit my dad, like all the other Father's Days of recent years. I always figure, since it's so far down there, I just go down the day before and spend the night, sort of stretching it out to make the most of the gas it takes to get there LOL
On Sat. I made my way down to the country and met him for a cook out at my cousin's house (see part 2 of 3, "The Bad"). Visiting with family, especially one's I've never met or haven't seen in a long time is always nice. The food was great!!! I didn't have to buy it, prepare it or clean up after it!! That rarely happens after you become an adult. So that was very good.
Saturday evening we just went back to dad's and watched tv before calling it a night. On Sunday, we got up late and ended up taking the 4 wheeler and the boat to Clearwater Lake. It's no Outer Banks but it has always been a family favorite. It took us a while to get down there because we didn't get an early start. This made dad fussy. He's also trying to quit smoking (after 50 some odd years) so he is easily fussy these days. But I commend him for trying again! I pray he has luck and the Lord will help him.
On our way to the lake, I had an opportunity to witness to my dad again, reiterating the simplicity of the gospel to him. I like to show him the faith I have in God that He will take care of my needs and dad's as well. Our fiasco last year with the boat lended a perfect opportunity to show him first hand that God knows what we need. 3 times that day we were in a crisis and all 3 times, without waiting, God provided the exact help we needed! It's a great example and I like to remind him of it. This is good, very good.
Our boating trip on the lake was fun. We ventured way up and around to where Black River feeds into the lake. We had lunch on the boat. The outing was relatively uneventful until we were heading back to the dock. The boat motor kept dieing. He kept trying to fix it and was growing increasingly fretful and agitated. I simply said with every confidence, "The Lord knows what we need." Then the motor worked only on low gear but it was enough to get us back! Again, a perfect example of how faith pays off. I welcome these opportunities for flaws and trials. He's the kind of man who needs to learn the hard way and even then it usually takes more than once for him to learn a lesson!
We did some light fishing but of course did not get any bites due to the fact that the water level was up. We enjoyed cruising around the lake. We had dinner at the Cowgirl Cafe and I got to see my cousin Kathy who works there. After we got back to his house, we watched the movie "RV". I thought it was a nice clean family movie, a nice way to cap off the trip. It was environmentally the most tolerable trip to my dad's I've enjoyed in....well, forever since he didn't smoke while I was there. Stay tuned for "The Bad" and "The Ugly"

Momma Mia the movie to open soon!
I have always been disappointed in not having made my way to the theater to see Momma Mia the musical. It's just one of those things I didn't decide was "OK" to do alone until it was too late...oh, also, I don't have enough room in my budget for many 'excursions' and extras. These things need to be planned well in advance for ticket prices over say, $15.00 LOL
But you bet your bottom dollar, like beer pong to a frat house, I *will* be in line at the Ronnies 20 Cinema to see it sometime that opening weekend (July 18th, 2008)! I know the movie will not be like the musical, they never are, but it will be a fun and much anticipated event for me :-)

Happy Father's Day!
Well, I'm off to the country to visit my dad for father's day. I'd better make sure I'm all paid up on my term insurance after the fiasco we had last year! 3 different times that 1 day we had a crisis and 3 different times, the Lord provided the exact help we needed. The biggest crisis was the fact that I hadn't seeded the boat trailer down onto the ball hitch of the truck and it came off and the boat on it's trailer continued down the road and into a ditch! I could not believe that happened, but it did! So I'm wishing all the dad's out there a happy and *SAFE* Father's Day!!!

Hot, hot, hot!
No not from a dose of progesterone cream, from potato chips, believe it or not! My mom picked up some chips at Aldi's for a party and brought the left overs to work. They are whole grain white corn tortilla chips with Asiago cheese.
Sounds mild enough, right? NOT! They are HOT, HOT, HOT! At first I was so thrown by the heat that was 'supposed' to be cheese, I didn't like them. But then I decided to think of them like the hot corn chips I used to get in 8th grade and now I love em'! Does anyone else remember the ones that were rectangle shaped, I believe the bag had a Mexican guy or a Hill Billy guy laying down or something. Anyway, at first they were hot, then you'd get used to the heat and want more and then near the end of the bag, you'd panic because you remember that the real burn comes after you stop eating them! Man, I loved those hot corn chips! I can't find those exact ones anywhere. Well, these are a good substitution. Crunch on, friends!

The long way around
From time to time I have one of those moments when I realize I took the long way around the block. When you realize you made something harder on yourself than it had to be, it's aggravating to discover you've wasted your time. No, not like trying to determine if Phentermine is a popular diet pill, this time I'm talking about wallflowers. No, not the band, the fragrant bulbs you plug in to an outlet that wonderfully scent your room for a few weeks.
A friend gave me one to try and I really enjoyed it...while it lasted. Now it's time to go in search of refills. Here's where my thought process takes off: My first thought was to try Ebay. Why not? I love Ebay! It's a great place to find all sorts of great bargains, right? Well after much searching, I decided that there are way too many scents to choose from. The Ebay market is flooded with all varieties and options. They tend to be less expensive if you buy in bulk, but for the most part, if you haven't tried the different scents, how would you know which ones best fit your likes? I mean, you are committing to buy something based on the scent it gives off and how do you know if you can even stand to be around it? 2 word scent titles can be misleading.
Following the thought process leads me to this bright idea: If only I could sniff a sample to know if I like some of them! So I decided to look on their website to see if they offered any descriptions of the different scents. Well, as soon as I hit the Bath and Body website, I saw that they were having a sale! Hmm!!! Next thought: I see they are out of stock on a couple of the scents I was considering, so I decided to look up a local store and call to see if they had them. Final thought: After 1 phone call, I discovered that I can buy them locally and more important, the store will have samples I can sniff! I could get everything I need for less than Ebay or purchasing from their website, plus, no shipping! Now why didn't it just occur to me to find a local store before going through all that online drama? Duh, Beck! What a waste of time.

I have a friend who keeps a very clean house. It seems sometimes that she's overly anal about house cleaning, but I always enjoy how clean and tidy things are when I visit her and appreciate all the hard work she does-everyday-to keep it looking clean. I am NOT a very good housekeeper. I get overwhelmed by the number of tasks and tend to just ignore them until they are full on projects that then take me all weekend long to get done. Like now, I've been cleaning house all weekend! Now that it's all clean (and beautiful, I might add, come back in a couple of days for pictures!), I'd like to keep it that way, maybe you can tell me how you keep up with yours! Do you have a cleaning schedule or just clean everything in the house every time? Help!

Big weekend plans!
This weekend is all about CLEANING! No, not as in cleaning your skin with an acne treatment, I mean cleaning house!
I received a notice on my door on Wednesday that the building owners (I rent) will be coming by for an inspection of some sort next Tuesday. Wow, do I have alot of work ahead of me this weekend! I've certainly let things go lately, so this is just the kind of motivation I need to get in there and 'Git r done!" I need the exercise but sheeshk! I plan to stay busy cleaning all day on Saturday and maybe even on Sunday too. Ugh...

The smile of the Mona Lisa
When I was a child, some friends of ours from church told me I had the smile of the Mona Lisa. Being 10 yrs old, I wasn't sure if I should be flattered or what, so I pondered the thought and kept it in the back of my mind. Today I received a card in the mail from one of our other family friends who found a Mona Lisa card while on vacation and just had to send it to me...from on the road in Virginia on their way to Washington, DC. It's nice to be thought of but this friend insists I actually look like the Mona Lisa, not just have her smile. I agree with the smile part but I am not too sure about the rest. I have noticed that with my pudgy round face, I do tend to favor the forms and faces of renaissance artists such as Di Vinci and Michaelangelo and especially Jusepe Ribera's The Flea:
I would *really-really* love to get a print of this. It was my favorite piece in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy. I also picked up a print of a painting called Woman with a candle by Godfried Schalken. I found it in a stationary store on the streets of Florence for like 3 EUR. I still need to get a frame for it. I think we favor each other, too.
Anyway, I may not be "beautiful" by today's standards, but my "classic beauty" would have fit right in a few hundred years ago! Here's a shot of me on a train station platform in Swindon, Wiltshire, England in September 2007.

"Although your qualifications are excellent...
I feel that they do not match the job position's requirements closely enough." This was part of an email I received today from the Controller of the position I interviewed for last Thursday. Needless to say, I am very disappointed. I even re-read the original job description and from what we talked about during the interview, I was a perfect fit for the position. Perhaps I didn't portray that well in the interview? Ugh...
Well, if this isn't the right position for me, I have faith that God will show me the way and lead me in the direction that is best for my life. So I can only look up from here, right! Maybe I needed this interviewing practice for the next time, or the next-next time...We'll see! Give Me Five tips and tricks to save money or cut corners to stretch your budget.
I watched a news story last week on ways to save money at the grocery store and I was wondering what other ways people can save money in todays ever-worsening economy. Here's some I've put into motion to make my money stretch:
1. Try vegetarian meals! Serve your family at least 2 vegetarian meals each week and you could save between $500 - $800 a year! Beans are a healthy and delicious alternative to meat and much less expensive. There are other alternatives to meat that can save you money while providing a healthy nutritious meal. (I love beans too!)
2. Clip coupons! I know, a no-brainer it would seem but some people actually don't bother. Why, I will never understand...it's a tiny piece of paper that saves you cash, hello!
3. Get gas sooner rather than later. This one is for those of us who live paycheck to paycheck on a budget. Every week, I allow myself a certain amount for gas. I have found, that if I fill my tank sooner, while I still have more gas in my tank, it will cost less to fill it up the rest of the way! If I wait for a couple of more days of driving to fill it up, I will spend more because I've used more gas before filling. I know what some will say here, you will just have to fill up sooner the next time, but trust me, sooner is better. I also read somewhere that your gas will evaporate faster if it's less full. I don't know if that's true or not but try it and see!
4. Raid your pantry & freezer! You'd be surprised what's lurking there in the back of your pantry and freezer. One week, try only purchasing the basic necessities at the store and make an attempt to create your meals only from cleaning out that pantry of older items you've probably forgotten about! You might just be surprised at how many meals you can make from items you've already purchased.
5. Slow down your high speed internet. Remember dial up? Remember the first experiences you had with high speed internet? Everything just seemed to soar and flow and load so fast! Well, I'm sure you have "upgraded" your service as they add faster and faster connections...which is usually the most expensive services they offer, right? So, digress! Slow it down a notch or two, you will still enjoy fast speeds that work just fine and in the end, save yourself some dough! I did this one, myself and saved $120 a year and still enjoy high speed internet! I found a great list of money saving ideas just by google-ing 'money saving tips'. Now, what can you offer for my budgeting mind?

What are the odds?
Sometimes you are fortunate enough to find money on the street or a parking lot or the pocket of an old jacket. Woo hoo! Usually it's not high dollars...a penny or a nickel, maybe. If you are *really* lucky, maybe a quarter. Or if you are **really-really** lucky, like a friend of mine a few years back, you will find a flying $100 bill on your way home from work. But I digress.
So, what are the odds of finding a dime? I almost NEVER see one of those. Ok, better yet, what are the odds of finding 2 separate dimes within 24 hours? It happened to me this week. Is someone trying to tell me something? The first one was at the gas station and the second one was the following day on the back parking lot of my apartment building. Odd, huh?

Today's job interview - an update!
I'm excited, I really think it went well! The lady was very nice, she would be the person I would be working directly under, so that's good. The interview lasted almost an hour with no awkward empty or quiet moments. I really hope it went as well for her as it did for me!
I didn't have any issues with her questions except for one. I never know how to answer this when I'm put on the spot, I suppose I should have given it some forethought knowing it's usually a common interview question...."Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" The first thought that pops into my head is always, "Duh, employed!" LOL I don't suppose I had a very interesting answer to that one. Perhaps I can think of a better answer and write it down and *if* I get called back for a second interview, I can address it again. Some other questions that she asked me and I believe I answered very well were:

- Which type of supervision do I prefer, hands on or at arms length?

I have a job interview!
I'm trying not to get too excited here. I do believe the job is a little more demanding than I can commit to but I'm so excited for the opportunity to interview! I have had my resume on Monster since like January this year and this is the first interview I've gone on!
I get emails from time to time for various open positions in my field and I have applied for some of them as they came along. Typically I've found I don't qualify for one reason or another. This one is for a major leader in their industry. The name is synonymous with industrial and construction type equipment...a hint...it's a man's nickname and a domesticated animal....that's all you get!
No more lounging around this office daydreaming about buying a house and new appliances and maybe some teak outdoor furniture to relax on, it's time to get busy and make it happen! I applied for another job today, just to keep at the process. I do not expect to get the first job that comes along, not putting all of my hopes in one position. I am praying the Lord will help me along and guide me towards His plan for me. I'll keep you informed!

Memorial 3 Day Weekend is here!
It's so nice to have 3 days off work in a row! I don't have plans to go out of town like I would like to, but it will be nice to stay around here and get some cleaning done and maybe visit with some friends. I'd consider seeing a movie too, but next weekend's 'Sex and the City' movie release is tops on my list! Although I wouldn't mind seeing 'What Happens in Vegas' too. Maybe I'll squeeze that in over the weekend!
Of course, going to sit in a dark movie theater isn't really as memory worthy as other holiday events. I mean, there's no use in breaking out with the digital cameras and capturing the memories there! I think this holiday weekend would be more memorable spent with friends and family, playing games, getting outside, going fishing, having a nice BBQ and so on. I used to say it's nice to just take a car ride and explore, but with the price of gas these days, you'd be better off staying at home! LOL
