What's your favorite social networking site?

I realize that I am old fashioned when it comes to certain principals. I can't help but to be put off by the idea of Facebook or Twitter or MySpace or any of the other social networking sites. Do I really need to know every little detail of everybody else's life? Do they all need to know what I am doing at all times during the day? Do I really need yet another distraction in my day to keep me from doing the things I need to do or being the person I need to be? Are we losing touch with reality with our relationships? Some might say they are 'closer' to other people because of their participation and some might say they now rarely communicate by traditional means, even email or by phone, now that they are 'Tweeting' and such.

So now I want to hear from you. What is it about the social networking sites you belong to that you have liked or not liked? What are some pros and cons? What are your thoughts on the extent at which you feel you need to be 'plugged in' in order to keep up? What would you change if you could? Do you have any concerns about the reality of your relationships being like disposable gloves in the sense that you don't make as much 1 on 1 contact with those around you? How many minutes or hours would you say you spend a day on these sites? Am I just missing the boat?

i will just keep doing what i always have done in the past....use the phone, email, or face to face communication. at my age no one cares about my minute to minute life situations....God knows them and I try to stay in communication with Him alone....
but I will add for all the younger generation...it sounds like pretty much fun...just be careful.

@Forgetfulone: yes, but what do you like about them? What do you use it for? I need more info, I am considering joining one but I don't know that much about any of them. I know Twitter is a bit different than the other ones and that Facebook and MySpace are more alike to each other....eek!

@Vivian: I know what you mean, I feel that the Lord is the One who needs to know more about me and what I'm doing. I'm afraid if I start up with one of these, I will become obsessed with it and that will take away from time I need to be focusing on the Lord and what I need to be doing in my life. I'm still not convinced it's a good and Godly use of my time...

Dr. Randy Carlson says, "We are over communicated and under touched. We are starved for true affection today."

I use both MySpace and Facebook. Okay, I log into MySpace once every two weeks to be polite to the work friends who still haven't switched to Facebook.

Facebook is much less Spammy then MySpace. More about connecting with people you already know then amassing a bunch of anonymous friends. I've not yet had a friend request from someone I didn't have a contact with in the flesh or online. It's a little more grown up.

Don't forget to "friend" me no matter what you decide ;-)
