Friday's Feast # 122

I haven't posted in a while..so pour some sugar on this!

Feast One Hundred and Twenty Two

Appetizer:
What was your very first job with a paycheck?
Well, I have been babysitting since I was 11, but my first actual check with FICA and everything would have to be Burger King when I was 15.

Soup:
Did you ever lose something really important to you?
Yes, of course. Haven't we all?

Salad:
What is the best Christmas present you ever received?
I'd have to say, my big teddy bear 'Teddy.' It's a very cute story, actually. I had been out shopping with my mom prior to this, and saw this big brown fuzzy cuddly bear that I actually cried in the store over not getting. Mom says now, that she didn't get the bear at that time, because I had cried in the store, wich was against the rules, also not like me to do. She said the other reason she didn't buy it right then, was because she already had purchased it for me for a Christmas gift and had it waiting at home. She says atleast she knew I would like it!! I think now, the best part is the telling of the story behind it. I remember getting up on Christmas morning in the country at grandma's house (I always wondered how Santa knew we were @ grandma's house and not at home!) I remember turning the corner into the living room and seeing him sitting patienly waiting for me under the tree with a big green bow around him. I still have him, he's in my bedroom right now...his tag says 1978, I guess I was around 5 then. He certainly has made for a great companion over the years! He's still snuggly :)

Main Course:
Tell about a favorite "hang out" place for you and your friends when you were in high school.
Well, I didn't have a favorite hang out in high school. Most of my friends were pregnant at that time. Maybe they should have hung out more! LOL But if I have to pick a place, the mall is a good answer, too.

Dessert:
Name something that always brings a smile to your face.
Top 5 answers:
5. My cats playing & purring.
4. Memories of happy times with loved ones then and now.
3. The site of the ocean from the shore or the view from an airplane window on a clear day 38,000 feet up.
2. The smell or sounds of new clean babies.
1. Singing and rejoicing!

Every heard of Freecycle?

There's something great I'd like to share with you. It's called Freecycle. If you have never heard of it, I'll explain. Freecycle is a network of people connected online who post items they would like to get rid of. Items that may still be of good use. The idea is to keep such items out of landfills! There are local freecycle groups for most areas of the country. For more information or to read about joining a group in your area, please visit www.freecycle.org.
If you do join a local group, please heed some good advice on interacting on the board. Make sure you read all the rules regarding posting your items to get rid of. They are specific, but very easy to follow. If you see an offer that you are interested in getting, simply email that person in a courteous way, maybe including a short idea of a way you could put it to good use or passing it on to someone who could make use of it. Remember sometimes the items get a lot of responses, so don't get too disappointed if you don't get something you want. I always offer to re-freecycle any portion of something if I can't use all of the pieces or whatnot. If you are chosen as a recipient, make a pick up time that will fit both your schedule and the person giving the item, and most importantly show up when scheduled! You wouldn't want to get a bad reputation as a no-show-er. Also, if something does come up, email that person at your earliest convenience to let them know. I always like to follow up with a Thank You email. And that's pretty much it! I have given a few things away that I didn't need anymore, and I have gotten many many things that have really helped me out.
I can't even begin to remember them all, but here's a partial list of things I have received and/or given away:
-coat tree
-shelves (plastic, metal, and wooden decorative ones!)
-curtains
-TV tables (set of 4 with a stand to store them!)
-fish tank supplies
-audio tapes on learning to speak Italian
-clothes
-black wrought iron fireplace screen
-tables (a card table and a small kitchen table to use in my laundry room)
-clothes rack
-standing oscillating fan
-bed spread
-Tons and Tons of scrapbooking supplies
-work out videos
-vhs movies
-vcr
-powdered sugar
-floor pillows
-purses or tote bags
-craft supplies
-cat items
-computer parts
-printers
-wine bottles & corks
-baby clothes and items
-baby gates
-luggage
-Christmas items
The list goes on and on and on!
Good luck and happy freecycling!

Unwanted giftcards?

Have you ever received a gift card as a gift, for a store you would never shop in? Or better yet, purchased a gift card for someone else only to end up not giving it and it's not a store you'd perfer? Well, here is a cool website where you can trade those unwanted giftcards for ones you would like to use! You can buy trade or sell gift cards on this site. I've used it a couple of times now, and I think it's a great concept! Check it out!

So I was thinking....

A friend of mine, Patrick from Patricksays, turned me on to this Payperpost idea. I am currently under review, but it looks very interesting. A way for me to share with you, and provide opportunities to you as well as help out some other people who want to create a buzz about their products. I already see a couple of opportunities I'd like to share. So as soon as my lovely blog here is accepted, I'll be on my way. So be looking for new posts-more often! It's a win-win-win situation! (I promise to pick interesting opportunities that I approve of) :)

Finally, a weekend away!

Well, it was father's day this past weekend, and I was finally able to get out of the city for a couple of days. I enjoyed some much needed fun in the sun as well as, riding my dad's 4 wheeler for the first time. It was alot of fun! Of course, I took it easy and didn't try too many adventurous manuvers, but all in all, it was a good time. Here's a pic from Sat. when my cousin and I went to Current River @ Owl's Bend. They have really made this into a nice place to enjoy the river again.

There's a nice long beach area complete with some shaded areas for refuge from the sun/rain/elements. It did rain some this day, but it was alot of fun anyway. Also, it was wonderful to find out Owl's Bend is now a place I can come back to and bring friends!!! When I was a child, our family would come here for the day or even camp out from time to time. It was a very happening place to have family reunions and go camping. There isn't much in the way of camping here, I'm afraid, but we did see a family gathered together for a reunion, so maybe all is not lost? It's only about 2 hours or so south-ish of St. Louis, anyone wanna go???

To all those "Anonymous"

Inevitably, there are those in our world, who believe it is their duty to bring their opinions to our attention. Believing so strongly in there right to do so, they come back over and over to regurgitate aforementioned opinions. All the while, so ashamed of themselves, they feel the need to hide their faces behind this thing called "Anonymous."
Well, to those people, I say this: "Grow a set, and come back with your opinions backed with a name/place/face." I do not regard comments left by phantom people. Frankly, it's a waste of everyone's time to even allow this feature. But some people have nothing else of value in there lives to spend their time on, than to bash people and wreak havoc on society.
None of your opinions matter to me, especially regarding my looks. I am not here to impress or disgust anyone. I am here to bear fruit for Christ. Simple as that. Because in 150 years from now, everyone alive right now, anonymous or not, will be dead. So it's not important how I look to you, rather, how I respond to what you are saying to me. If you don't like my picture, stop looking at it.

A much needed break...

Tomorrow, I am taking a much needed break from work and the city! I grew up 1/2 in the city and 1/2 in the country, so I get a little crazy if I stay cooped up in the city too long. I am the kind of person who NEEDS to fill my lungs with fresh country air and feel sun rays on my skin through skies that are void of obtrusive buildingfilled skylines.
My cousin Misty and I made up this great inexpensive get away last year, so now it is a tradition! We share a passion for scrapbooking and going to the river for swimming and soaking in the sun. So, we pack up our cropping supplies and projects, as well as our swim suits and river shoes, and drive about 2 1/2 hours south of St. Louis to the tiny little town of Ellington, MO. Her family owns an old farm about 3 miles outside of town, complete with farmhouse where we stay. Thus eliviating the need for a hotel bill. Also, we take our food and sometimes just drive into town once a day for dinner at THE restaraunt. Yep, there's only the one. It's just a hop and a skip (not even a throw) passed THE stop sign. LOL
Anyway, we like to spend the day on Black River at K Bridge

(pic from last year below)

and then at night, we stay up late listening to music and scrapbooking! It's great fun and a special way for the two of us to catch up and spend some girly time together.
A few days in the country is just what this girl needs right now!
See you soon!!!

PS, please feed Stephanie while I'm gone, thanks! -------> ------>

What kind of Sports Car are you?

I'm a Chevrolet Corvette!

I'm a classic - powerful, athletic, and competitive. I'm all about winning the race and getting the job done. While I have a practical everyday side, I get wild when anyone pushes my pedal. I hate to lose, but I hardly ever do.

In my own words, I probably do fit this description somewhat, but I wouldn't necessarily be a red sports car....too cliche'.

Take the Which Sports Car Are You? quiz.

Tax Season...UGH!!!

It's the least, wonderful time of the year.
When the taxes are due, the deductions are few
and the extensions are near!!!
It's the least, wonderful time of the year!!!!

Yes, I work for a tax service....and yes, I'm real tired these days.
Long hours and not enough rest makes for a boring social life...
Oh, that's right, I don't have an exciting one anyways!
I should look into that....
Ps. Don't forget to feed Stephanie while you are here......>

Knitting is fun!

Ok, so I like to knit...my dear friend Jen taught me last year. I'm still learning, but I really like the new creative outlet it brings. Also because of the ease of taking it places, as well as being crafty while watching tv! LOL So here's a cool site for knitting. I just joined some Yahoo knitting groups so hopefully I will get inspired to work more on finishing my projects and move on to new cool and fun things!
Until then, knit on!

"Pink Panther" A movie review...

Ok, so I took my mom out to the movies for her birthday. She requested to see the new Pink Panther movie. So we went...I am a fan of Steve Martin anyway...but I must say, it was a very funny movie! There were several times I laughed uncontrollably and snorted! Afterwards, a nice man who had been sitting in the row in front of us, said that he enjoyed hearing us laugh as much as watching the movie itself! I recommend seeing it...good funnies! And boy-o-boy do they make small cars in Europe!!!!!!!!!! Teeny-tiny! Let me know what you think, too.

"B" log

So, I thought about it, and from now on, I shall refer to my entries as "B"logs. The "B" is for Becca, of course. So my entries shall be known as "B"logs from this point on.
