I was off at the end of last week to visit the country with my cousin. Every year we like to pack up our scrapbooking stuff & our river gear and head to Ellington, MO for some R & R. Our grandmothers were sisters and they lived in the same town when they passed. We, of course, grew up visiting this town and the surrounding areas of recreation. We have many fond memories to relive of family reunions, float trips and all the summer time fun from the days of our youth. Her family still owns a farm about 3 miles outside of town. We like to go to Black River @ K bridge for swimming, floating and picnicking. We discovered the perfect spot to float in-a deep slow moving inlet where you can just float for hours and not go anywhere! It was great! Next year, they may be having a baby, so this could very well have been our last trip down for a while. An end to an era. But the next era will be filled with the laughter of little ones who will be discovering the joys of river floating and small town country life for the first time. What a wonderful circle of life to share. You're never too old or young to appreciate nostalgia & tradition.
But for now, it's back to work for me, yucko. It's really hard to get back into the swing of things at work, when all you want is to be on an inner tube floating around aimlessly in the gentle current of a cold river in the summer sun with your favorite family to laugh and enjoy the day with.
Happy summer memory making, all!
